We recorded The Glass Bead Game in two separate sessions about six months apart from each other, a pattern we followed with all our albums up until Blue Moon. In the first session we recorded, All My Eye And Betty Martin, Count On Angels and Monkey Talk, and on the second, Every Road Leads Home, Touchstone, Sense Of Purpose and See How The Land Lies.
Our usual method of recording with John Fryer was for us all to play together to capture the vibe, but to have partitions strategically placed around the live room and have the microphones placed close to the amps so the sound from the instruments wouldn’t spill onto each other. The idea behind this was to get a really good drum performance over which we could over dub the other instruments. With the bass the original performance was kept with a few drop ins to patch up any mistakes or distortion, but the guitars, keyboards and vocals were all recorded again from scratch
